The story goes, the US based Waltham Watch Company established a subsidiary under the name Waltham International SA Switzerland in 1954, just a few years before the US factory doors closed. Shortly thereafter, the subsidiary Waltham Switzerland established a partnership with Blancpain to bring their pioneering Fifty Fathoms dive watch to the US market, under the well established Waltham name. From there, the story remains somewhat untold. Waltham branded examples of Blancpain's Bathyscaphe, a model that was introduced in the late 1950s and popularized in the 1960s, like the one we have here, tell us the subsidiary remained functioning in Switzerland after its parent went under. - Hodinkee
